Calgary International Airport

Whatever it is, I hope it's announcements of routes to a city currently not served by direct flights from YYC.
That'd be bold, in a time of deep uncertainty for them. They need to reassure themselves they can make money with these frames than they will go elsewhere with the 8 more that are on order. I know a lot of people wanted Japan, South America and the moon this morning so they're disappointed, but more will come in due course.

The LGW flight was expected. CDG and DUB aren't a total surprise, but will be interesting. As you say, it's a bold move. CDG might not be that bold though, as it is a good place to make connections from. It would have to take a way business from AC flights to LHR and FRA. Not sure about the viability of the DUB route using a 787-9 unless they can get a lot of connecting passengers.

3 weekly from Dublin may be doable. If they can get connecting passengers from YEG,YQR, etc.. it could work. Nice to see CDG added to the list of international destinations for Calgary.

CDG is a nice pickup, but DUB is a game changer. Flying to DUB you can pop onto Ryan Air to get to the smaller centres around Europe. For example flying from Calgary to Seville is a major hassle. No less than 2 stops no matter which way you go, and the cheapest flights have less than ideal flight times, add in tight connection times....good luck with some of those. Or you can go WestJet, and hang in DUB for a couple of days (or possibly transfer same day) and fly Ryan Air to Seville return for 110 Euros. Depending on Westjet and Ryanair flight times, transfers to Europe may or may not be same day, so it's not an apples to oranges comparison, with the routes through FRA, LHR, etc.. but It's a flight I would do.

Maybe not a gmae changer adding DUB, but it gives YYC fliers more and better options for Europe. I was happy with the new announcements.
