With elevated we can flex the plus 15 system that already exists
It should be easy enough to engineer connections from the +15 to the stations, the tough part will be the building owners. Even if the city agrees to pay they may not want to, but I like the idea.

Doesn't Austin have one of the worst light rail systems on the continent? Every 30-40 minutes peak, and it only just barely goes into downtown. 1600 passengers a day ride it.
I think they're commenting on Austin's Project Connect plan, which originally prior to 2021 was an ambitious multi-billion dollar LRT expansion with a significant downtown tunnel. However like the Green Line, construction costs skyrocketed and the downtown tunnel was effectively canceled when they had to scale back the project.

Initial plan:

Current plan:

I never realized the line was elevated at 114th. That makes so much more sense than what I thought was going to be a cut and cover tunnel.

No 4th Street station mentioned, must be contingent on the plan downtown. So it could be elevated. OR they just haven't completed much of the design since it was decided the station would be at or above grade.

I think the multi-use pathway inclusion is interesting. Has anyone heard if we will be able to use automated trains or if there will still be a bunch of level crossings. Automated trains can lead to increased frequency that makes need for heated structure moot.

There will be level crossings. Douglas Glen has 4 level crossings including 2 roads with sidewalks, and two level crossings for accessing the other direction of travel for train users for example.

a bunch of level crossings
Every station design is the same, even the elevated ones (Ramsay/Inglewood and 26th Ave) and have level crossings between the train directions.

I never liked the canopies. They're completely opaque, cover a tiny part of the platform, and look like they're at an angle that would let almost all of the rain and snow onto the platform.
They're the design element but you're right, they serve very little function.

The BRT stops are better... Just don't get me started on the lights that could be used to extend the canopy. Why wouldn't they just do an inexpensive steel tin?

A low floor sky train. Which, sure, does make stations cheaper. If only just slightly. And I guess there's still the option to run it right up centre street.

Either way, seems like what was once underground is now above it. Ogden, 114th, and I assume downtown.
