Calgary Flames Official Thread

The blind squirrel found a nut. In their defense they haven't look as bad as their record. This should be an easier road trip, see how they manage.
I was looking at it and before last night they had held a lead in 6 of the 8 losses I believe. While not having held a lead in the 1 win at the time. So just need to be able to hold leads it seems.

It was nice to see them get a win against the Rangers, but part of me is also happy if they keep losing. Let’s face it. They aren’t likely to make the playoffs and at this point, it’s clear that we are heading for a full rebuild.

Not hearing any talk from Kadri on pumping the brakes on trade talk, think the team know what's coming. I think everyone is tradeable save for Wolf of course, Honzek, Coronato and Zary, Weegar and Parekh and Gridin too. The rest can go, though I doubt anyone will want Huberdeau unless we keep half of his salary. I think we may need to keep Huberdeau around to hit the cap floor though...

The flames will give Kadri his 100th game celebration (currently scheduled for the Columbus game on November 5th). After that it will be open season of trades for Kadri. As for everyone else (outside of Andersson) the flames will be cautious. I'll first state this is not me talking but what I think the flames think... They're afraid to have a bunch of kids on their roster, losing Kadri means you lose someone who has been there and done that.

Now this is my opinion... I want to see what you have with the young guys you currently have. That will let you know what you need or it will let you know how far away you really are from having a chance at a Stanley Cup run not just a chance at the playoffs. I'll also say you need to identify someone you can bring in that has what Kadri has in him. Having a player that instantly demands respect is rare. Kadri demands respect for his consistent ability to be very good if not great at times. Sure, Backlund and Huberdeau are veterans that will stick around but those guys have never been mistaken for guys that have that "F**k you" in them. It is my opinion you need someone like that around to bring guys into the fight of an NHL game. Some might think Lomberg has that but the respect for him is not equal to Kadri, Lomberg is a fourth liner on the 32nd team in the league. Tkachuk was that guy for the flames, they replaced him with Kadri. Maybe you can get a guy like that back in a trade? I just know that type of player is available very often.

I think it will be closer to the trade deadline before Nas goes, he's great with the young guys so more time to mentor, and we will get a better return closer to the deadline.

Missed the game last night, but the hole just keeps getting deeper.

Also, the team is putting out there that they might keep Kadri, I wonder if that's them just looking to drive up the price?

People, including me, target Murray. I'm wondering if it is ownership that's closer to the team that fears being bad on purpose. The thing is they haven't tried it. They're guessing fans won't show up but it is a guess. In seasons where they are 20th, sure fans don't show up that year and lose confidence for next season, so that scares them to be 32nd. If you're 32nd and the same amount of people are not showing up and you're not selling season tickets for next season, maybe getting a very good pick will get people to start to get excited.

Also, people will want to buy tickets to the dome's last season and the new arena's first season, so you have two seasons of better-than-team-record ticket sales. They need to see that and use it. You won't be good by 27-28 for the new building but you can be on the way up.
