Yeah 4 downtown hotels by the same developer is wild. Unfortunately I worry that the city is so desperate to get development moving in the EV that they'll approve this with the Riverwalk wall still included 🫤

This is the same setup as Concorde and some of the other fancy condos in Eau Claire, so the precedent is there, but it would be nice at least have retail in this location. :)

I renamed it East Village Truman Hotel for now. Us regulars know the difference but for others, this at least separates it from the other hotel proposals.

Does Eau Claire have any retail along the RiverWalk? That's what makes the EV special, is the activation of the waterfront. It will be a major loss to the master plan, if arguably the most important corner becomes a fenced wall at grade.
 
I'd argue Chinatown and that container pop-up is closest we get to near-riverwalk retail. Went for run on RiverWalk last weekend, was so nice that even in late October the Pathways still gets sun exposure.

Chinatown popup? There is the bike repair container on the river path by 10st, that's the only one I can think of aside from the couple buildings in east village.
 
I cycle past Riverhall every day (well, 4 days a week lol) and I think it's neat. I do hate how they close the access to the river path from 3 Ave every time there is an event at Riverhall though. I'd be happy that summer and events at Riverhall are over, but now they are paving 8st with paving stones and I can't get to the river path again!. Anyway, I digress.. lol
 
Yes River Hall, I couldn't think of the name in that moment. Outside of that I think Chinatown is the closest retail. I do think the brick fence should be a no, no. Once this gets on dmap I'll definitely be leaving that as a comment and writing to my councilor. I think there can be a lot done to soften the barrier between the hotel and the RiverWalk. There has been a very large municipal ratepayer investment in this section of the river, and it would be a waste to let it become and private hotel's hot tub view. I would argue the hotel itself would be better off by having some kind of activation for the public there that would serve the hotel and people on the RiverWalk, otherwise I hope they're ready to be constantly patrolling that fence.

There are a couple of kiosks next to Concord that do mounds of business in the summer. We really need some more retail along the pathway.
