It would take a lot more time and careful planning, but the Cowboys Park paving could have facilitated ice rink(s) among other things. The park already has basketball, beach volleyball, skate park, and bouldering...it should just be a multi-sport area that can accommodate some special events. Winter could be a full hockey rink and another free skate rink. In the summer maybe the free rink converts to pickleball courts.

But obviously that is pretty ambitious and would take multiple years of careful planning to make it all work together. Or the debauchery tent could just go somewhere else.

Yeah, all the natural ice rinks on dirt downtown (Thomson Family Park, Barb Scott Park) have slopes. But the Lot 6 rink is pretty severe in its lack of flatness.
Every year is a learning process about what works and what doesn't, so hopefully next year these issues are addressed.
All that said, the Lot 6 rink did see plenty of use.

Any remnant of Olympic Plaza is now gone, including the arches. Bad reflection on the glass but trust me it is a dirt plot.

I remember hearing something of them coming down years and years ago, but it must've got postponed/cancelled as I can't find any recent developments regarding them. I hope at least the large jump stays up, it’s just so iconic to that part of the city.

The floor of the oval desperately needs to be replaced, without a major investment soon it won't function anymore.
There were stories earlier this year about the ice plant needing replacement. Hopefully something gets done because the facility actually gets used and the only one on in Western Canada. Richmond's Oval is now just a regular rink.

There's actually an enclosed speed skating rink in Fort St. John BC. I also wouldn't worry too much about the Olympic Oval here in Calgary needing money put into it cause it serves athletic uses for both the city and University. Even if the ice plant is removed it could be converted into gym space similar to Richmond Olympic Oval. The last I heard was that they were going to demolish all the ski jump facilities because the landing zone isn't long enough anymore with how far athletes can jump, and that the main tower will stay just with it's jump removed.
