We don't have a climate change thread but this also has economic implications. Instead of finding a buyer as was rumored, the federal government plans on keeping the TMX pipeline to generate revenue to pay for climate change initiatives. At least they are thinking beyond adding more taxes to pay for them. I guess the tax increases will be going to pay down the federal debt whenever they get around to being concerned about it.
If the feds are really serious about revenue generation then maybe they will get behind maximizing oil sands production to ensure TMX as well as our other pipelines maximize capacity. It would also help if they became an ambassador for 'clean, ethical oil' so that we attract more countries for our energy products.
