    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

With CMLC getting involved, our lack of any TOD happening appears set to continue.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

It seems tight only because City Hall, and Council in particular, seems to often suffer a bad case of "analysis paralysis", and in particular if there's any opposition to something. But a window of between 2 and 3 years to complete design and commence construction on the downtown portion, which...

    Chinook Centre Developments

How bizarre! That would actually be a pretty convenient place to live if you could get past the noise and possible odors that typically result from heavy industrial uses.

I think its just the short one.

    Eau Claire Place I | 28m | 7s | Cidex Group

So, based on the renders on the website it's basically done then, other than some changes to the 1st floor facade and possibly some additional color panels on the corners. Woof.

    Calgary I Boro Block I 20m I 6s I Liberty Housing Organization

I think it looks decent. Good massing and what appears to be ground floor retail. Good to just see development happening around our transit stations - and, of course, it's affordable housing which is also a win.

    Westcrest Sunalta | 11m | 4s | Westcrest | FAAS Architecture

The added density is great, but I'm really not digging the design.

    Chinook Centre Developments

Another new DP for the area, this one is to be located immediately east of the Lumino buildings. Architect is C1ZN Architecture. If all of these projects go ahead, I can see Chinook starting to evolve into a proper "midtown", hopefully with a much more urban feel.

I'm a fan, but echo the worries about Strategic not being able to get this done.

    Calgary's Residential Highrise Boom 2000 - 2025 and Beyond

Wow, fine work! The start of your timeline coincides with me moving to Calgary. It's easy to forget just how much highrise construction this city has seen in that time, especially when construction in the last few years has seemed to lag when compared to places like Toronto and Vancouver. I...

So either this or Beltline Block looks set to be our next tower to start up?

    Currie | 87m | 30s | CLC | DIALOG

Hasn't Bosa basically abandoned Calgary to focus all their energy on the lower mainland anyways? I agree that while not good news in the short term, in the long run we'll hopefully see involvement by a developer who is committed to building in Calgary.

I've heard anecdotally that the condo market has only just caught up to the previous peak value of 2007.

Turns out both Library Square DPs have been submitted, so that suggests they might try to build them both at once?

Another "wild card" for Montreal is if the PQ win and as a result the prospect of sovereignty rears its head again, that will likely contribute to population (and economic) decline.

    Statscan numbers

US cities are all over the map, even moreso than Canada, when it comes to municipal boundaries. Cities like Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Nashville consolidated their entire counties into their municipality decades ago, giving them relatively large populations of nearly a million but very low...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Honestly, if the quality is there (like in this project and much of University District) I'd be fine with most of the rest of EV building out with 6 storey wood frame. LoDo in Denver is mostly lowrise/midrise and has been very successful. I guess it will come down to the economics. Not sure...

    Chinook Centre Developments

Chinook, Market and CrossIron seem to have become the dominant malls in Calgary. The others never seem that busy.
