    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The "empty" land across the street/North of Shaganappi should be the next development ;)

    Martel Block | 8m | 2s | Systemic Architecture

De Ville is a homegrown coffee shop that serves excellent coffee. Seems like a great fit for any Main Street to me.

    University District | ?m | ?s | University of Calgary Properties Group

While the buildings themselves are nothing special, I do fear the loss of relatively affordable housing for families close to the campus. These homes served as a landing spot for many new graduate students and their families to Calgary, and provided accessible housing, close to campus. What's...

    Era | 41.15m | 13s | Minto

The 'Block on 4th' probably belongs on this list. Has to be at least from 2017 or 2018. Also considering the smaller scale of the project...bonus points just for that...

    Gallery First & Tenth | 70m | 18s | Truman I FAAS

It's also frustrating because it wasn't that many years ago that they re-did the sidewalks, boulevards, etc of 1st street. That was the moment reallocate more space to pedestrians. Missed opportunity (as we are now seeing again with 17th Ave).

    Aria Encore | 56m | 17s | Gracorp | Zeidler

If this project is indeed rental, with the hopes of attracting students - that's great! I think an area called "University District" should indeed....have university students living there!

This site also provides access to parking for M3 - so that will also be an influence on design.

    Stephen Avenue Quarter | 241m | 66s | Triovest | Gibbs Gage

I would also argue that the Oil Tower is one of the worst sections on Stephen Avenue (poor relationship with the street). Not the type of conditions we would want to mimic elsewhere along the street.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I would agree that Calgary, over the last decade or so, has done development "better" than Edmonton, but Edmonton over the last several years or so has been more bold in adopting progressive planning policies.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It shocks me that CBC/Herald gives so much space to White, considering that there are (many) other more informed voices on city building in Calgary that they could be amplifying. Unfortunately, White's work is entirely anecdotal without any evidence to ever support the arguments and claims being...

    Park Point | 106.98m | 34s | Qualex-Landmark | IBI Group

It's the same as phase 1 of this project, where the townhouses are being used for a mix of residential or commercial uses.

    Park Point | 106.98m | 34s | Qualex-Landmark | IBI Group

Townhomes at grade that have the flexibility to be used for commercial or residential is a pretty logical approach for this street at this time.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I was in a rush when I posted. If the above link isn't work for some, here is the listing on MLS: https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/23649935/1713-westmount-road-nw-calgary-west-hillhurst?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social-organic&utm_campaign=socialsharelisting

    The Fifth | 17m | 5s | Arlington Street | NORR

That light would reflect off said office building and bounce back at residents living in the Fifth. It's not the worth the inevitable headache that would come when residents would start to complain.

    GROW | ?m | 3s | RNDSQR | MoDA

With the price of lumber being what it is.....the value of this building has likely appreciated in a similar way ;)

    The Fifth | 17m | 5s | Arlington Street | NORR

The flashing lights that would come with images constantly revolving would be a tough sell to prospective residents.

    Park Central | 134m | 39s | Hines | S.C.B.

It's not a Subway, Shoppers, Bank or Medical clinic. It's a win.

    Arris - 5th and Third | 142.03m | 41s | Embassy Bosa | Amanat Architect

It's the back of house. You need a place for shipping/loading. Every development has it.
