    Calgary Municipal Politics

There has been talk of/yearning for a municipal tax revolt since at least the Duerr years. Rick Bell even ran against Duerr.

My bet for the budget, funding for a big order, and funding to grow the production line to deliver those orders on a reasonable time scale. It was supposed to be in a budget a year ago, but things get delayed with turbulent politics at home and abroad.

It depends if the advance vote was into a ballot box, or a special ballot sealed in an envelope where the envelope is individually identifiable.

The rolls will be compilled into a 'Calgary Voters List' which the city is now legally obligated to keep. If someone voted twice they will then be charged.

if you go slow enough the turn is fine. But politically, through China town ... that was just a non starter. Council had already fought and lost for a bike lane on 3rd, and 1 or 2 redevelopment projects hat would have sailed through if outside the area.

$200 million a station before contingency 4 years back .... Yeah. It is a lot.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

When the greenline was prioritized, it enabled the red line tunnel to be pushed back. The green line tunnel was seen as a cheaper proposition than the red line tunnel (much shorter length, fewer stations), and if you need grade separation for the greenline to run on the recommended alignment to...

if this process was anything like the last one, the plates/reflective film are from 3M or some other similar company, the company provides free design services when you sign a big deal with them. These were very likely every proposal from the manufacturer, and to attempt to dampen controversy...

7th is at capacity at rush, you can't run more trains. Earlier technical analysis was that with 5 car trains, the surface crossing at heritage starts to fail in a major way. Let alone downtown (would have to get our some measurements to see which blocks can support a 5 car station)

They can, but you'd need to close roads, and I think the property owners would hate that even more. The station boxes would be hard enough. The ground under 2nd street is worse than most of Calgary's downtown pretty bad soil conditions. Wetter, not continuous layers. The Bankers Hall pit...

It was at capacity with 4 car trains before the pandemic.

This just isn't true. The isn't a program to fund it today, but everyone expects provincial and federal funds for the next decade long infrastructure program to flow from 2028-2040 or so (the end dates get fuzzy because projects get delayed, like the green line under the round that officially...

Even the UCP rejected that, and the option to skirt up between the library and city hall. The red line south is at capacity. The green line having its own access to downtown pushes the need for the red line tunnel decades into the future. Dumping green line users onto the red line south...

Without a point in time estimate for the tunnel, the problem is assuming tunnel costs from 2023 versus elevated costs from 2026.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

It isn't nearly as strategic now that TMX has a much higher refined product ceiling. All of BC's needs can come down the pipe. Also ownership doesn't matter. If we value it, and it is acting contrary to our interests, we can expropriate it at any time. If we aren't willing to expropriate it...

    Calgary Municipal Politics

In fairness the climate emergency thing was both in policy on Gondek’s website and mentioned at one of the big debates. The pride of timing it had following the election was a big misstep.

^BC does not want nor need Alberta gas for LNG. The benefit is less competition for capacity down alliance and the mainline, and head office jobs/profit attribution.
