    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

27 booked so far…. they are not all as large as Rotary of course but Calgary is in a different league than Halifax. BMO will be Canada’s second tier one space. Calgary‘s biggest challenge is accommodation.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Yes, but you don’t try to force a business into a space that cannot support it. Stampede Trail is being purpose built for restaurants and entertainment, so build there. Admittedly, I have no idea if Stampede Trail is going to succeed or not, but I can guarantee you 100% that a restaurant (or any...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Actually, the BMO Centre is currently a consumer trade show space - targeting local attendees visiting the Home and Garden show or World of Wheels. The new BMO is a tier one convention centre - targeting international visitors (such as the 30,000 Rotarians from around the world who are expected...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Would you invest YOUR money in a restaurant or business located in the “perimeter of the building”? Try walking into your bank with that business plan and see what they say.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Here is the latest render. It shows a bit of the canopy roof. I am not sure what the rest of the roof looks like (other than what I said previously - that a lot of thought has gone into the view from Scotsman's Hill - so it will not be ugly).

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

No. I am neither affiliated with the project nor working on it (although I do have intimate knowledge about it). I never bothered to inquire about the exterior finishings. We won't have to wait long to find out though. By Stampede week the exterior will be complete (which is crazy considering it...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Retail on the south side doesn't make sense. There will be nowhere to park (unless you paid the Stampede $15 - which you wouldn't do to buy a coffee or souvenir). Pedestrian traffic could never support a business in that location. The festival/retail/restaurant strip is Stampede Trail.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Actually, there was a lot of consideration put into the Scotsman's hill view. You will notice there is no HVAC or mechanical on the roof. Take a look at the height of the building and remember it is only three floors. The mechanical is situated on publicly inaccessible half floors (between the...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

The fort structure around Rotary House will be coming down within the year and Wedickville will get some love. The Big4 isn't going anywhere anytime soon (until there is a need for a third hotel on the property).

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Don't forget 17th Ave will soon be going through the park and Stampede Trail will be completely redeveloped shortly (with or without an event center).

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

I edited my post to remove those words at the same time you posed this (because it sounded brash and I didn't intend it that way). My point was 99.9% of people will not know the difference between the renders and the actual building (just like they don't remember the differences between the...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Are you saying it's an ugly building or it doesn't look like the renderings? Big difference. It is not a bad-looking building by any means and it will be amazing when the great lawn is completed. This will soon be one of the iconic buildings in Calgary.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Trust me, when you see the inside you will forget all about the outside.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Not at all. Inside the South wall is a pre-convention corridor. The addition of the extra windows makes the area bright and spacious. I can tell you first hand that it is an amazing view looking outward from the inside. In this case function is far more important than matching a rendering.

    Calgary Field House | ?m | ?s City of Calgary |

Relegation won't ever happen in North America. Teams pay big bucks for the exclusive rights to play in their respective leagues. Imagine Charlotte FC being relegated to a lower league after spending $325MM USD for an MLS expansion team (only to be replaced by a $6MM CAD CanPL team).

    Calgary Field House | ?m | ?s City of Calgary |

Yes, Calgary is looking at a 400m track for the field house. There are many 200m indoor tracks in Calgary.

It is if you need to put public money into a new or substantially renovated football stadium.

    Calgary's Homeless

Interesting idea. Has this strategy actually been implemented (and succeeded) anywhere? darwink mentioned LA. Some of the obvious challenges would be access to bathroom facilities.

Nothing to comeback from (I don't have a horse in the race). I just have an appreciation for comedic irony 👍

Hmmm... and this comment comes from someone whose footer says this: 'My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.' — Jack Layton No anger in your post. It's just so...
