They just need to get an actual downtown going. Fill in the vacant lots in the commercial core. But meh, to me Airdrie is Alberta's Mississauga. Complete with a downtown anchored by a shopping mall, just without all of the downtown towers...yet

There also used to be a strip right on MacLeod Trail I'm not exactly sure of the purpose of those homes but the rectangular building at the bottom of the aerial photo was a brewery so it may have been for workers there. By the early 1950s it was a full on community but the Macleod Tr homes...

I believe it is being demolished as the new building has a different form than the original vs What it does appear to be doing is reflecting the architectural style

Good call being that it's already Manchester residential community's commercial strip and it intersects with the LRT station.

It looks like the west half of the NW building (the one that fronts 60th ave) has ground level units with patios so that least that should provide some decent non-communist frontage.

Is there any kind of master plan for this area that lays out future retail corridors etc or is it just 'we'll get what we get' ? Edit: I suppose the 2 natural corridors would be 61st and 58th. But it would be good to set out a North/South one as well

Yeah the problem with most commemorations is you need to go into a lobby or something to see it. I think at least some of this will be public facing.

I'm looking forward to this, the 1st St frontage has always been a dead zone for what should be one of the key Beltline commercial streets. Plus new built in customers for retail is a plus.
