I'm looking forward to seeing the construction of the event centre. I was a wee lad when the dome was built, and don't remember it at all.

Sounds about right. My dad worked in the Home oil tower, and I remember watching them put the crane up at BH from his office. I don't remember exactly when but I remember the Olympics were getting close. Could have been spring/summer of 87 possibly.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It's possible that it could happen, but would take a long while given current growth patterns. Over the past 5 years, Winnipeg has grown more than Halifax (Winnipeg +49K vs Halifax 34K), but Halifax did grow more than Winnipeg from 2019 to 2020 11K vs 6K, so who knows, anything is possible. It...

With WCP and Nexen, empty to nearly empty, maybe the two buildings can for a downtown campus for UofC :)

The old pic is too blurred out to tell if BH has started construction or not, but I remember the crane for BH went up just before the Olympics, in late 1987 some time. Eaton's store was still around at the time of the Olympics. It could be as late as spring of 1987, but yes some time after 1985.

I always assumed the white panels were back lit or something. They are plain old reflective panels with no lighting?

I'm assuming this is the final tweak to the design, and if so, is construction going to start soon?

That's kind of what I figured too.

Eaglecrest has their hands full me thinks. There is another one somewhere along 24th ave that isn't an Eaglecrest project iirc.

Thanks for the advice everyone! One more newb question folks here might be able to answer. I remember the original plan for the downtown cycle tracks included on for 8th street SW, I take it, it never went ahead? or still in planning?

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I have a question about the bike path along the Bow. If a person wanted to bike from Inglewood to Fish Creek, what's the best path route? I took the path as far as Ogden road and then it cut to the other side. Looking at Google maps, it's unclear where the paths go along the Bow River. Thanks!

Difficulat to say if it would work here. In Japan, theft is much less a problem than in North America. Cool idea thoh.

Great scale for the area. Add this and the ALT hotel, and UD is going to have its own little skyline.

Iove it when a tower starts from an already built podium. All of a sudden it's rising into the sky 🤩

I'm fine without the retail. It would be a decent bonus, but for now, it'd be nice to see the section between 9th street and Edmonton trail get more development, especially on the north side.

It's too bad the Red's building is involved, it's a funky little corner, but it's also good to see more activity underway.

    Calgary Municipal Politics

Very true. Druh actually opposed the Sola project on 14th, which was in her riding, and it still went ahead anyway, as I recall the council vote was 12-3.
