Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I'm surprised at how fast the sale went through, considering the anchor tenant is leaving. Maybe the buyers already have a tenant in mind, maybe the price was very low?
I would say from a long term viewpoint, the campus buildings still have some potential. QP continues to build up with business and residents, and now has at least a decent timeline for getting an LRT station.

Somehow missed this but renders for the new Walden fire station + library, architect is hcma and HEREBY:

I am boycotting Imperial (Esso) just as a personal choice, I know it’s less than a drop in the ocean.
They were the last major oil company to move their headquarters to Calgary back in the day and then they decided to build a suburban campus rather than a downtown tower. Always irritating 😡
Unfortunately it's not that simple. Most Essos here are owned by Parkland (which was recently purchased by a US company) which source fuels from their own operations but also other suppliers. And Imperial could be supplying other stations as well.
From the article:

"Calgary House, also known as Telus Sky,"

It's weird though. I honestly have never heard the Calgary House part before.
I thought this part was interesting "Toronto House (53 per cent of 464 units as of September 30) and Calgary House (79.4 per cent of 326 units)". The Toronto building was completed last year, the vacancy seems high? Conversely, the Calgary one seems decent.

Found this quote interesting "There’s tenants like Staples who are thinking of maybe relocating downtown." Who would've thought, an office focused retailer should be located where the offices are.

I know we have had a lot of discussions about the 11th street underpass, but is it actually funded? Or did the city just fund a bunch of studies and pretty pictures? The Staples land could be redeveloped especially with Co-Op and WVT nearby.

The downtown Staples is such a crap location to get to when you need something done for work. It's not pleasant to walk or bike from downtown offices. And the access is weird for cars too, I always find myself missing a turn and having to loop back 10 minutes trying to drive there.

I'd love to see them do something in the centre of downtown with a retail store plus a cafe and co-working space like they have on University Ave in Toronto or Bank St in Ottawa.

Their University District location is fairly nice, just no cafe. With uses like the SAPL campus, a more central Staples would make sense.
