Agree with everyone else. Prefer the original but this is also pretty good. The original was a little more unique. I liked the curved balconies. I still like River West towers because of the curved balconies on those ones.
I think I actually like the new design more. The original was unique and would have also been great, but really looked like a 60s/70s design. Would have been worried after a few years of aging, the building would actually look like it was built in 60s/70s.
Both designs are pretty great. I'm sad we're only getting one and not both
On another note, it's interesting how Dialog Calgary seems to be exceptionally good at residential design, whereas they and every other Dialog office in the country are completely awful at designing anything else.
I mean to come up with this design's vernacular doesn't require originality. There's existing inspirations all over the country. The setbacks on the sides take all the grace out of it. It looks clunky instead of vertical. DIALOG took a mid century minimalist vernacular and ruined it with massing. They're more like all the other firms they took over than you think.
This is a disappointing downgrade from the one in the Skyrise database
