When will the 2024 yearly numbers come out for YYC ?
Last year was around beginning of FebWhen will the 2024 yearly numbers come out for YYC ?
WS won’t like that!Porter is expanding their service to Hamilton, and Calgary will be one of the first 4 destinations.
YHM-YYC is set to begin on July 9th. YEG, YVR, and YHZ are the other three destinations.

Porter Airlines to offer flights from Hamilton to 4 major Canadian cities starting in June
CHCH News has learned Porter Airlines will begin operating out of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airportwww.chch.com
But that's exactly what we want isn't it?WS won’t like that!
Definitely not. I don't like speculating, but it wouldn't shock me if WS starts something like YVR-YHM or even 2x daily YYC-YHM in response.WS won’t like that!
I noticed construction walls have gone up, pre-security between air canada and westjet check in. Cant rmbr the contractor sign, but 100% an active construction zone. A new central security area??
Speculated on this a few pages back. Hopefully they take advantage of this time instead of building back the same facilities.I wonder if there's any plans to do some of this work over the B gates closure, seems unlikely a roof repair would take 18 months. The entrance to B gates security is also boarded up. From the renderings, they were pretty far down the design and while waiting the "couple years" for Air Canada check-in to finish, COVID happened. They've also changed CEOs since then but it definitely makes sense to consolidate to a single, larger security area rather than operate 3 security lanes. YYZ and YVR, significantly larger airports operate 2 domestic security (and YYZ because they are physically separate buildings)
"The plan is to build the new screening area at concourse B where the temporary Air Canada check-in is currently. But the move will have to wait a couple of years until new check-ins for both Air Canada and WestJet are completed, Sartor said."
That would be nice. But I don't think YYC has the capital to significantly change/improve the concourse outside of the repairs covered by insurance.Speculated on this a few pages back. Hopefully they take advantage of this time instead of building back the same facilities.
Where are all our passenger improvement fees going then? That would be nice. But I don't think YYC has the capital to significantly change/improve the concourse outside of the repairs covered by insurance.
950 more per hour, does that get them to 2050? Or are they ahead of that?Found some info here from August, looks like it's happening in anticipation of some federal funding mechanism.... https://www.ourcommons.ca/Content/C...703/br-external/CalgaryAirportAuthority-e.pdf
"This new area will replace the three existing pre-board screening points at Concourses A, B, and C with CATSA+ screening equipment to handle current and projected demand. The proposed centralized screening area with 9 automated C+ screening lanes will significantly boost capacity by 45%, accommodating up to 950 more passengers per hour during peak times. The total project cost of $52 million includes constructing a modern, efficient screening checkpoint with advanced technology to manage increasing passenger traffic in a safe and efficient manner. With demand for outbound domestic pre-board screening forecasted to reach 2,050 passengers per hour in 2028, YYC requires nearly double the current capacity."
This will certainly enhance retail performance, with all domestic passengers entering the secure area within a given space....likely see that massive glass wall come down
Probably right about that. They said at the end "require nearly double the current capacity" so if 2050 is double, currently they can screen 1025. The numbers seem a bit cherry picked since that 2022/2023 were the post-covid recovery times and wait times were longer globally. I support a centralized screening because its more efficient and a better experience but wait times at YYC are very reasonable whenever I've flown or dropped someone else off at the airport. Also never seen all 10 lanes in A/B/C all open at the same time so facility capacity likely wouldn't be the cause of any slowdown anyways.950 more per hour, does that get them to 2050? Or are they ahead of that?
I would think the 950 additional puts them well past the 2050. The current separated setup is very inefficient staffing wise....not to mention the dated technology.....9 automated lanes will do wonders....950 more per hour, does that get them to 2050? Or are they ahead of that?
