West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

Found this rendering on S2's website under "West District" not sure what it is but it looks interesting.

I would guess that is an initial vision of Radio Block, the curvy commercial building next to the park. Truman probably had a few architects put forward a proposal, but ultimately went with MODAs.

The signage out front says “Wired” though. So maybe it’s a different proposal.

Another crane going up today in the deep hole for what's going to be the tallest building in this development. Any one knows how tall the oak and olive towers going to be? The underground parking pit is pretty deep
I saw a crane piece going by in the early morning darkness this morning, was wondering what it was for. Should be able to see it when I get home, I will maybe try and snap a picture on the commute.

Some construction updates from a bike ride (couldn't be as comprehensive, was keeping up to the kid)

Plaza has cladding/glazing going in now on the upper floor sections, and also has the structural/sculptural trees installed now:

I think it might be a Sobeys, but am not 100% sure. Both would be a bit strange, given that both brands have relatively close locations (Aspen Landing for Safeway, 69th Street for Sobeys). We should know soon enough.

Also, that tower I hinted at earlier, well, should only be a few more weeks before more details can be shared.

West District is really coming together well. I feel like with areas like this and University District, Calgary is truly doing a better job than other big cities of building pedestrian scale suburban town centre's that don't suck. I was in Vaughan Metropolitan Centre in the summer and I truly think it was terrible. Either 50 storey towers or 2 storey buildings with little in between. I'm not dissing on the GTA - I'm from there - but what they are building there is really inhospitable. In comparison, WD is human scale development.

Further to the post by @Albertasaurus in the general urban development thread (and then the thread created for it), Truman's next project for West District has been submitted. The documents are not quite yet up on DMap, but it is a concurrent land use and development permit application. It is the highrise that has been hinted at.

Here is the updated community map to give you an idea of where it is (#20 on the map), direclty west of Radio Park:

Will West District ever expand past its initial boundaries. I love the whole project but feels weird its a small pocket around SFH
