    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Their University District location is fairly nice, just no cafe. With uses like the SAPL campus, a more central Staples would make sense.

Is there a scheduled completion date for this? Moved really fast.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

It's not just the US that wants to stop Chinese EVs. It gets into regional challenges with Canola grown in the West and cars produced in the East. The auto sector doesn't seem like that many jobs but there's a lot of indirect jobs through Magna and other suppliers. If the assembly disappear, all...

Westbank developed both of these, and both named City + House. It looks like the same building flipped upside down, pretty cool.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Found this quote interesting "There’s tenants like Staples who are thinking of maybe relocating downtown." Who would've thought, an office focused retailer should be located where the offices are. I know we have had a lot of discussions about the 11th street underpass, but is it actually...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Most Essos here are owned by Parkland (which was recently purchased by a US company) which source fuels from their own operations but also other suppliers. And Imperial could be supplying other stations as well. I thought this part was interesting "Toronto...

That happened relatively quickly, considering it may not be that easy to lease the space given the size (whatever Imperial is not using anymore). There are almost never direct subsidies in the form of funds transfers, almost all of the government incentives are in tax credits for this exact...

    Calgary International Airport

A lot of these aren't WS though. The AC adding SEA is next to impossible, there's no connection point there. The Delta add also doesn't really make sense, there's already two WS and 1 Alaska on SEA-YYC, and Delta don't usually compete directly with WS, especially not now. The ones to small US...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Not sure if that's rhetorical, but it's pretty contiguous that I don't have an issue with it. It wouldn't look weird if they added Bridgeland from Mountainview, but I'm guessing that decreases the population of Mountainview too much. It's trying to balance the population between ridings without...

    East Village Truman Hotel | 24m | 6s | Truman | NORR

My guess is it'll be similar to the courtyard at Lake Louise. It won't be a super tall fence because part of the appeal is that you can see out into the river while dining. I don't really mind the fence, especially if it is required for a liquor license.

The whole license plate thing is dumb, but it's insane to me someone can trademark the use of the words "Strong and Free" on more than 200 items, when it's a phrase in our national anthem, and just a very common term.

With Winners/Homesense at so many locations, has that taken over the market the used to go to Zellers?

    Broadway on 17th | 154m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

They'll have discussions, but there usually isn't ink to paper until much later. For context, the Frontier development had similar promises of a grocery store. They had one company that wanted the space when construction started, believed to be Sunterra, but then they pulled out during Covid...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Postal workers and teachers will always exist as long as Canada and Alberta exist, so there is no existential threat to their jobs. The teachers demands are far more reasonable than the postal workers. I highly doubt the a private union would be making those kind of demands knowing the company...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I think you mis-interpreted what I said. I meant the Notwithstanding clause does have its merits and intended purpose against federal overreach, but it should not be used to override your own provincial legislations. Because obviously, there would be no overreach. I don't agree with legislating...
