I don't think you realize how much it costs to deliver clean water, electricity, high speed internet, transportation connections and affordable food to all these often remote communities, often with relatively low economic capacity. Many reserves are in the state they are because there's few...

    City Parks, Rivers, and Wildlife

I actually don't know if this is just based on whatever the admin wants to do? And then there's the underpass design which has like enough content to write a small book. Where's the same multipage functional study for an actually funded park? Instead of a hypothetical underpass...

I hate this about the city. If they are finalizing construction details, they must have a planned design? What is being done to improve "safety accessibility, circulation and landscape"? Or is it going to be the same as 2025 where they will unveil the plan as the equipment is on site or likely...

This is similar to the West Nineteenth development that was also appealed. Looking at the letter of the bylaws and policies, this development should probably be rejected, same with many other appeals. But we need to fundamentally change the way we plan and why I believe firmly the LAP process is...

I agree mostly with your perspective. But I think expecting indigenous people to speak up even if they feel performative is unlikely. Especially when some are clearly benefiting from this and it's usually the ones with the voice (business leaders, chiefs, spiritual leaders, etc.) It's...

I don't mind the indigenous aspect either. And to say the "whole exterior" of Scotia Place was an indigenous design, is a bit of a stretch. However, I do find these efforts kind of meaningless. An artist-in-residence program for indigenous artists? Great. A contracting requirement that gives...

    Stampede Station | 273.5m | 67s | Truman | NORR

Does Truman not need to sell these residences before proceeding? For comparison, the Broadway started sales in summer 2025, DP approved Dec 2025, they don't plan to start construction at the earliest, Oct 2026, and that can get delayed if sales don't go as planned. And Truman plans to submit DP...

I'd think that's the Fairmont. I don't know how Truman can have ANOTHER major project in the works lol

The new building is actually called the Osten-Victor Playhouse. The whole Complex is Werklund Centre, that little corner within the OVP is the BMO Lodge. I know it's probably related to the indigenous aspect of it but now we have a lodge that is an open space, and a billion "Centres" downtown.

    Calgary Municipal Politics

All have retained lawyers per the reporting yesterday, which doesn't imply wrongdoing, it's standard when something like this happens.. And Gondek and Chabot have publicly said they are co-operating, and not sure what it's about. Chu released a similar statement through his lawyer that mentioned...

What? We have plenty. Riley Park, Rotary Park, Murdoch Park, Prince's Island (as you mentioned), Confluence. Riley and Murdoch in particular. There are people there in the summer, but a similar park in Toronto would be filled. I have no evidence for this but I think the lack of car ownership in...

    Calgary International Airport

I don't think Korean has too many cross holdings, unlike Delta, so the fact they've taken a stake, I can definitely see ICN-YYC. They also have a lot of widebodies on order, especially with the 777-9 delays, so they're likely not able to run as many flights as they want.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

As part of Budget consultations, they've posted the first list of projects for GamePlan. I assume as part of the next Budget cycle there will be dollar amounts tagged to each, but a starting point. https://www.calgary.ca/parks-rec-programs/gameplan.html

That's probably more just the people than anything urbanism can change. It's like how even in Montreal, things are much more trendy than Toronto. As more downtown towers go up and attracting younger professionals, maybe that will change in time.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

There's been a lot of development on 10th Ave on the south side so it's not the noise/proximity to train tracks holding builders back. It's unfortunate our only over rail connections are parking lots. A pedestrian park connecting between Oliver on the South and a new development on the North...
