    Infill Development Discussion

The new row housing that faces 4th street is great. Replacing blank fences with front doors is such a huge improvement to 4th. The street design from 17th ave to 36th Ave was all non-street-facing residential so I look forward to all of it being replaced by row housing. The same stretch on...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Wasn't the Area Redevelopment Plan just superseded with the new West Elbow Local Area Plan 3 months ago? I'm curious if council will have an appetite to modify a brand new plan that took a year and a half to get through.

    Calgary 2019 Civic Census

One thing I've noticed, very unscientifically, is if you want to know how interesting a downtown might be look at the place's pre WW1 population. For example I find Lethbridge's and Medicine Hat's downtowns to be similar in size and number of shops even though Lethbridge is almost twice as big...

    Calgary 2019 Civic Census

Just for fun I used the 5 yr average growth for each city and used that to forecast. At current 5 year average rates Airdrie would surpass Red Deer in 2033 and Lethbridge in 2035. I wonder if it will have a proper downtown by then... Guess we'll see what the next decade brings.

    Calgary 2019 Civic Census

It's going to be crazy when Airdrie is more populous than Lethbridge and/or Red Deer. Which will be soon.

    General Construction Updates

I think just the signage. It's unfortunate about that building, once they dug into it they found so much damage and sketchy repairs that they would need to replace most of the building to fix the problems so it was decided to demo and build a new 'Memories of' building. with the oriignal...

Very nice. That lot has been vacant for ~45 years! (full of houses 1979, vacant 1982)

Really happy about this one. Even though Parkdale is inner-city now it still kind of reflects its original build as the 'edge of town' with just a tiny half block commercial area. Parkdale always seemed like a bit of a commercial dead zone between the shops on 19th St and the large commercial...

Calgary Imagery historic airphoto site discussion thread

So this showed up on the Calgary subreddit but no one had a definitive answer This property https://www.google.com/maps/@51.0480101,-113.9963983,332m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUxMS4wIKXMDSoJLDEwMjExNDUzSAFQAw%3D%3D At one time (around 1957-1988) was open field with this structure...

They were petitioning against the new building. This one had no plan, as far as we know it is destined to be a vacant lot.
