Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Not mandatory, but if a plate gets lost or destroyed, would the owner have to take one of these new plates?
Eventually yes, because they'll only make the new plates. Unless they screw it up like Ontario did with a plate that doesn't work at night and had to essentially scrap it and revert to the old plates.

Putting aside the motto, the plate just looks bad. The Slogan is in an Arial font, literally the most boring and default font. And why can't we have picture plates with red letters? Especially when some of the backgrounds are BLUE! And so it doesn't look like BC or Ontario. And the picture... it's like they went on Google images and took the first one they saw. Something with an illustration or a bit more creativity would've been much better.

Looks like all the paving is pretty much done for the 4th lane N/S on Deerfoot but they still have a big section blocked off. Anyone know when they plan to open it up?

After the three incidents within 24 hours last week, another life-altering injury on Calgary roads.

"Investigators believe the pedestrian had a walk signal at the time of the collision." There is a light at this intersection. So in other words, the driver ran a red light and almost killed someone in broad daylight. Absolutely ridiculous.

Despite a "Stop line" sign at this intersection, because there is no painted stop line and the eastbound traffic lights are temporary, drivers usually get so close to the crosswalk that they can't see the traffic signal up above them. And then they just guess when the light has changed, sometimes running the red light. I see it every single day crossing Memorial here.

if this process was anything like the last one, the plates/reflective film are from 3M or some other similar company, the company provides free design services when you sign a big deal with them. These were very likely every proposal from the manufacturer, and to attempt to dampen controversy, the province has the vote.

Pretty lame IMO.

Today not one but two cars too far ahead of the stop line to see the light above them!

It’s not perfect for sure, but that doesn’t excuse the fact she hit someone in the crosswalk! Light be damned, there’s a person in front of you. It was a senior so I doubt she ran into the intersection.

It’s highly unlikely she stopped and proceeded because she can’t see the light, because she’d at least see the human being. Likely she drove up, with full visibility of the red light but was distracted and hit a person crossing right in front of her.

I can see the pro and con of photo radar, but there’s no reason we shouldn’t have as many red light camera as possible. There’s never a justification for running a light.
