I'll be really choked if the city takes the opposition seriously on this one.
I highly doubt they will, fortunately. There's already precedent for tall buildings on MacLeod, and since it's a DP rather than a Land Use, the decision lies with Administration rather than Council, so it won't be a political decision.

Oh man... I was too cocky with Glenmore Landing, I thought it would go through. Councillor's ahead of re-election could use this to make another point like Glenmore Landing.

I thought Glenmore landing was a shoe-in. Now I have no idea what to believe anymore lmao

Glenmore landing had too much uncertainty around what the built density would be and I think that's what killed it. This is just a stand alone tower that shows the actual height, so it should be a different scenario.

Glenmore Landing had to go to Council which, with an election coming up, made it a longshot at best. This will not need to go to Council and there is precedent along MacLeod Tr with other buildings of similar height - some of them built decades ago. I will be absolutely shocked if this does not get approved.

To be clear, this one had to do a land use amendment as well (LOC2023-0163), that will allow multiple towers on this plaza site. It's council vote/decision already happened, on July 16, 2024. See item 7.2.42 on that agenda (it was a long agenda). Now that land use has been approved (the Council decision) we are at the DP stage (the administration decision) with this project.

Glenmore Landing failed at the land use stage (the Council decision).

Here is a grainy, low-res image from the engagement summary that went to Council of what the ultimate build-out could look like (in terms of site plan, the yellow squares are towers):
