Calgary Restaurant Thread

Just went to True Wild Distilling and can confirm drinks are solid, lovely decor.

Does anyone know what is happening just south of Tubby Dog? It was a covered parking lot and has been tarped up for months. Figured they were enclosing it for something but not sure what.
 
Based on the cities development map it appears some sort of restaurant is going in at the Dollarama building on 8th. Wonder what it could be.
 
Another restaurant will be great for 8th, that street has so much potential!

What's happening with the former Balo Vietnamese site? they closed and the site was fenced off a couple years ago and haven't heard much since.

I recall a proposal pre-Covid for the site but nothing happened. There is another site just south of there that has been fenced off for ~ 1 year ago but no movement on it either. I wonder if that one might be a conversion in the future.
 
Went to The Guild a couple of days ago. It's a nice place, with a nice atmosphere, also great service, but the value is so-so. We ordered the Ribeye Steak, which at $79 was solid, but no better than say The Keg (actually I prefer the Keg), The Steak Frites, Not a great portion and again, decent, but not great value at $40, The Guild Burger at $23 was great according to my son was is a reasonable offering for the price.
For sides and appies, the Brussel sprouts rocked, at $13, was a win. The Deviled Eggs, didn't have much flavor. The Fried Mac n Cheese was excellent, and at $15, maybe not the best value, but part of those elevated prices goes to the atmosphere, and service etc..
I'll probably go again, but it'll be to sit out on the patio with some apps, sides and a beer.
 
I noticed Krispy Kreme on Macleod is now open. Not sure when that happened.

Here's hoping it works the second time. Definitely a more convenient location for me this time around.
 
I looked around and couldn't find a specific thread for "old Calgary" questions so this is probably the best bet. Where was The Keg located downtown about 20-25 years ago? I went a few times but can't remember exactly where it was. And while I'm here asking... in what building was the Moxie's located on 17th back in 2006? It was the site of my wife and I's first date (though at the time it was just a friendly get together, it ended up being grandfathered as our first date)

Used to be one on the SW corner of 11th ave and 5th st.
