From the website it looks like all the commercial is for lease- meaning I think CO-OP gave up on their own liquor store (or cannabis store which the City once rejected, but I think the existing store that caused that rejection has shut down). I guess the barley belt is too much competition? I didn't think it would be with Macleod there.
 
Perhaps a dumb question - but why do people like the redesign so much better? what specifically about it is nicer?

The new one is a much better design IMO, due to the materials, and the general massing but to be honest, even the old design as bad as it was, was still a win for this particular parcel.
