If the two recent proposals (other being Lotus) got built, it would be a great boost to the neighborhood.

Altogether these proposal add quite a bit of population and completeness to Chinatown, a positive step for the neighbourhood to increase it's vibrancy, destination value and economic sustainability. More broadly, Chinatown is one of the best opportunities to increase the human-scale development in the downtown area, most of the other angles of approach/neighbourhoods that ring the commercial core struggle with too much office, too many auto commuter-focused ramps/bridges/underpasses, or require such large redevelopments it will be a while yet to fill in with the gaps in the urban fabric.

This site had a proposal for an 18 story brick and glass condo building called "Edge Lofts" in 2001. Unsure why it failed - probably 9-11 and the Dot Com crash. I had a scan of the rendering, but can't find it.

Cairo is mostly made up of people who used to work at Strategic Group. While Strategic is still procrastinating on Barron Building, Cairo has landed their 4th project since the pandemic hit.

Site prep started today removing remaining concrete slab. Looks promising, I'll try to grab a picture as I walk by here daily.
