One thing that I think would have made the project look much sharper is if Battistella had chosen to paint the undersides of the balconies white instead of just leaving the exposed concrete. The other new projects in East Village have received this treatment and in my mind it makes a big improvement.

I was just going to say, I wouldn't buy a condo that didn't paint their undersides. It looks cheap and like you don't care about details.

I hope they do. I'm surprised by how many condo projects neglect the undersides, including some rather expensive ones. I think many condo developers have learned the lesson. Park Point looks sharper with the undersides coloured. I actually wish more developers would even put greater attention into balconies by tiling the floor, for example. Common practice in some countries where apartment living is the norm.

Some treatment beyond the raw concrete top of the balconies would be good. However tile outside on a horizontal in our climate is difficult. Especially with the expansion and contraction those balconies would face, tiles would move and then a freeze in the grout/thinset and tiles would be popping off everywhere.
There are lots of floating options, and on a high end project having every balcony the same might be better than leaving it up to the residents but nearly all people currently do nothing for a floor treatment. Not much incentive for a developer to increase costs.
We could also then debate how much use are these balconies getting anyways aside from being a BBQ station.

It's because it's not part of the culture yet. There are surely climate appropriate treatments.

Cool balcony design, but not Battistella’s best effort. Materials look cheap, too much spandrel (especially the blue side), balconies not painted, cheap crown...

From this morning. Certain angles look awesome, others meh.. nice splash of color to EV either way. The patio glass installed really makes it.

I do generally like it, the shape, especially of the balconies, is awesome.
But yeah the colours would pop a LOT more if they painted all that concrete.

It’s really good. A couple less columns of the blue spandrel and maybe a slightly less Abugov Kaspar steel canopy at the top would have improved things but overall a win.
I like INK quite a bit, it's one of my favorites, for a few reasons. I like the scale of it, the colors, and the balconies. I would be okay with it, being taller and more in the center of EV, as it adds some color to a sea of gray.

Unique condos with balconies have good resale. Just saying.
