A stone's throw away from the nearly finished Ventus Block development stands another Beltline project that will bring an additional peak to the neighbourhood's flourishing skyline. Work on Embassy Bosa's The Royal surpassed grade in our March construction update, and since then, most of the attention has focused on the forming of the 34-storey tower's large podium structure.

The sprawling lower levels of the building will be home to an Urban Fare supermarket and a Canadian Tire, a commercial assemblage spearheaded by First Capital Realty. The development marks the chain's first venture outside British Columbia, where developer Embassy Bosa is also based.

Because of the size and complexity of the floor plates, building podiums typically consume a large amount of the construction timetable. The double-height floors of the podium are evidenced in the latest photo update, which shows two cranes servicing the site. The project should pick up the pace when crews advance to the assembly of the residential levels, which are more or less uniform in their structure.

The 223-unit building will include condominiums at a starting price of $289,000 for a studio. One- and two-bedroom floor plans are also being offered — as of February, the units were 70 percent sold. When residents begin taking occupancy in fall 2018, they will have over 10,000 square feet of amenities at their disposal, with a fitness centre, steam room, sauna, squash court, social and dining rooms, and an elevated outdoor garden filling out two levels of space.
