Emblazoned with a massive red V, it is hard to miss Vogue Condominiums, the S2 Architecture-designed, LaCaille Group-built, 36-storey, 232-unit residential tower now nearing completion in Calgary's Downtown West End. Located at 914 6th Avenue SW, Vogue Condominiums has made a bold entrance onto the local streetscape.

With glazing work now complete and exterior cladding not far behind, it will not be long before crews head inside to deliver the finishing touches in preparation for the tower's opening later this year. Featuring a mixture of textures from finished to rough-hewn stone, brick, and spandrel panelling, the tower's eclectic exterior borrows from a wide array of influences. The overall aesthetic achieved by the tower's materiality and setback-heavy massing is evocative of a loose, modern take on Art Deco — an effect that becomes more pronounced towards the top of the tower.

Embellished at key points with dashes of architectural flair, Vogue Condominiums' distinctive look will serve to set the tower apart from its neighbours. The tower's Deco-inspired design will be further amplified by the inclusion of an exterior lighting system that will illuminate the upper levels at night. Emanating from the crown of the tower, the lights will ensure that Vogue Condominiums will be seen at all hours, and should be activated once all other work is complete.

Back at ground level, work crews are busy putting the finishing touches on the exterior. The large central window containing the signature V has yet to be properly framed, while various other points across the lower portions of the facade similarly await their their final cladding.

Once complete, Vogue Condominiums will be a welcome addition to the local skyline. Bold by modern design standards, the project will hopefully set the tone for other projects in the area.
