Forum contributor Surrealplaces sent his trusty drone for a vertical adventure back in July and it returned with some revealing images of Vogue Condominiums' rooftop details. But that was during the day. Another recent escapade sent the unmanned aerial vehicle skywards in search of some stunning night photos, and it certainly delivered.
Developed by LaCaille Group and designed by S2 Architecture, the 36-storey highrise takes classic cues from Art Deco geometry. A considerable podium of stone and precast concrete grounds the development to its address on 6th Avenue SW, where residents and visitors enter the building foyer under a grandiose arch. S2 Architecture has amassed a wide range of experience working on multi-functional building projects. The Kensington Legion development and INK are two of the firm's most notable forthcoming works. Each of these developments has unique architectural embellishments at the top to bring the respective buildings to a distinct vertical cap.
Like matchsticks poking out of the box, Vogue's crown is composed of extruding vertical strips that create an irregular spiky roofline. Some of these concrete blocks can be seen illuminated as building crews test out the underlit lighting feature that was depicted in the project's marketing. Residents are expected to take possession of their suites next year, while workers continue to finalize the exterior articulation.
Vogue will join a growing club of skyscrapers that display ornamental lighting features. The frosted caps of Eighth Avenue Place and Bankers Hall are among the most visible objects in the night skyline. Not to be outdone, the Calgary Tower's recent LED upgrade has given the landmark structure reinvigorated allure.
