Calgary's Telus Sky arguably has the most unique and interesting design among the city's highrise towers, and one of the most interesting highrise designs in the country. A very noticeable feature of the tower's design is the gradual twist of the tower as it rises.

Designed by world-renowned Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Westbank of Vancouver, its anchor tenant is Telus Communications, who said they wanted something more feminine in the skyline, which they described as "A cowgirl amongst cowboys." The building's twist certainly does that.

Since the beginning of construction two years ago, architecture geeks in Calgary and everywhere have been closely following the progress of its construction. Many have been waiting to see what it will look like with the twist, and now that time has come.

The image above shows the gradual start of the twist. The first noticeable signs of the changing floor plate are on the most recent level of cladding, which is the 11th floor. You can see the slight change on the left-hand side. On the floors above that the changes slowly become more pronounced.

A couple more images show close-up view of the changing floor plate.

Even in this view from a bit further away, you can see the curve start to take shape.

We will check in on this development again after the tower has risen more floors in order to get a better look at the change. For more information on Telus Sky, check it out in our Database, or for discussion about the project, check out ourrelated Forum thread.
