West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

It has been a busy summer for me, almost a month since my last walk through and photo update of the area.

A crane base is in at The Quarters site:

Parkside is still moving along. It seems like it is taking a while, but there always seems to be a decent amount of people working on it:

Radio Park is seeing some construction now too. Pretty excited to see this finish up:

Newberry is done, and looking pretty good too if I may say so:

Piling work continues on Oak & Olive:

Plaza's excavation has made quite a bit of progress in the last month. I imagine it won't be long before we see a crane base for here also:

Mondrian's parkade is also really coming along:

And the first building of Trico's West83rd townhomes is fully framed and enclosed, with shingles on it:

Not much construction work on Trico's 8 single family homes to the west of 81st Street, but they do have images now up on their website for what kind of style they will be. Not as modern as the Truman ones on the east side of the community:

1 mil for a 3 bedroom 2000 sq ft. home? What a tragedy to happen to Calgary 😔. Thought this city would be safe from experiencing pricing similarly seen in Toronto and Vancouver.

These western SW neighbourhoods are always expensive like that for some reason. I guess people are willing to pay a premium for a new build house that is on the larger size, while not being way north or south?

If you check realtor.ca, there are still lots of 3 bed, 2000 sq ft homes in good, established neighbourhoods (e.g. Woodbine) for $700k or less.

There has been an empty parcel of land just off 85th Street, near West District, left undeveloped since the neighbourhood of West Springs was first established. A couple years back, a sign appeared advertising a new development on the site called "West Springs Landing."

I was hoping this lot would be developed by Truman, but I found a brochure for the development today and it seems to just be a run-of-the-mill strip mall with a small four-storey residential component in the far end of the lot.

A bit unfortunate, but to be expected for the area, considering the rest of 85th street is lined with these types of developments.
While not West District specific, this is in the neighbourhood. The development permit for this project has now been submitted:

I mean at least the buildings are on the road frontage but otherwise they didn't even really try here. Those pedestrian crossings painted across the parking lot are hilarious.

Parkside is getting closer to completion. Trees up on the roof, sidewalks all poured. Still some finishing touches to go though:

The quarters is progressing:

From a neighbourhood development update, the curbs for Broadcast Avenue have been poured, looks like pavement will be soon. This will be nice, it will connect through from 85th Street to 77th Street when done:

A better shot of the crane at Plaza, and a second crane base is in place:

Mondrian is nearly at grade:

A second building at Trico's West83rd Townhomes has sprung up:

The parcel on the west side of 81st Street (so actually 2 parcels, directly north of Mondrian) is owned by the Sikh Society of Calgary. I don't think they are going anywhere anytime soon. The parcel on the east side of 81st is apparently the original owner (or, very, very long term owner) who has zero interest in selling is my understanding. I am sure Truman has told them that the moment they are ready (or more likely, their children are ready) a deal will be done.
