In our last follow up on the new Alt Hotel underway in Calgary's University District, the building was only just beginning its ascent into the University District landscape. The podium section of the tower was constructed and the hotel room floors were set to rise.
In the past six weeks the project has seen rapid progress with recent photos showing construction now hovering around the 8th floor. Given the timeline that's about a floor a week, and if the pace continues the 15 storey tower would be expected to top off sometime in early May.
The 156 room hotel is Groupe Germain's second ALT Hotel project in the city of Calgary, having completed their East Village ALT Hotel, a a little over a year ago. The new ALT hotel is one of the key parts of the burgeoning University District, a master planned neighborhood that began development back in 2018. The neighborhood has several residential projects, multiple parks and an abundance of planned retail. Across the street from the ALT hotel in the Rhapsody development, there will be a Save-On-Foods grocery store, while a short hop away, Block 23 will feature retail outlet's, restaurants, and even a Cineplex VIP Theatre with 5 cinemas.
