When we last checked in on Riverwalk, back in late August crews were in the midst of demolishing the existing buildings to make way for construction. Demolition happened and the site was idle for a period of time, but has since become active as recent photos show workers on site doing site prep work ahead of construction.

The project, a collaborative partnership between Campion Development Group and Verve Senior Living started out with some controversy, having faced opposition from nearby residents. The project was eventually approved, and is now in the beginning stages of construction. M Builds, the general contractor for the project, has confirmed that the project is under construction.

Designed by S2 Architecture, the 141 unit residential development will be a seniors' facility and will address a growing need for more community integrated seniors housing, providing a ‘continuum of care’ from independent supportive living to assisted living and memory/dementia care. The majority of the building will be independent living units, with some units for assisted living, and memory care. Located in the retail rich Mission area, it will be easy for seniors to walk to various amenities such as restaurants, pharmacies, and grocery stores.

The next stage of construction will be drilling and caisson work, and once that is completed it will be followed by excavation work, and then the eventual rise of the structure.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out our associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below
