Excitement has been building in Calgary's Bridgeland neighborhood with the recent signs of construction starting up again at Steps, a multifamily residential project that has sat idle for 2 1/2 years. The site has been an eyesore for some time now, after construction halted in early 2017 due to financial issues with then developer Giustini.

There were rumblings of the site returning to action, and now recent activity such as the re-erection of the tower crane all pointed to work resuming. Scott Construction, the site's general contractor confirmed this to be case.

The troubles of the 6 storey, 122 unit development go back much further than 2017. Construction initially began in October of 2014, and was steady for a year, but then came to a halt. The site sat idle for a year, and at one point had become a rather eerie site after it had filled up with water. The site was eventually drained and construction started again in June of 2016. Construction went slowly and came to a halt again in October 2017.

With Giustini out, Centurion Asset Management is now driving the project and the site is again under construction, but this time it will be built as a rental project. Bridgeland residents are keeping their fingers crossed that the Sturgess designed project will finish up this time.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file, for photo updates and discussion check out our Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
