The last time we looked at 935 - 5th Ave, an affordable housing project by Homespace in downtown Calgary, construction was just beginning with drilling rigs on site and some foundation work underway. Since that time there was some minor excavation work, but because the building has no underground parking, construction was essentially at grade the moment it started.

In the past month or so the majority of activity has been ongoing foundation work, but activity is about to turn a corner and progress will be more rapid and noticeable as a tower crane is now erected on site. With a tower crane now on site structure will now begin its ascent.

Designed by IBI Group, the 9 storey 74 unit building will be home to approximately 100 residents seeking affordable housing. Located on the northwestern edge of downtown, the development is a close to the 7th ave LRT corridor, as well as a short walk to Calgary's Kensington retail/restaurant district.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file, for photo updates and discussion check out the related Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
