Just a month since our last update, and the excavation process at Courtyard 33 in Marda Loop has already made significant gains. What was then a recently cleared patch of gravel has blossomed into a full-fledged excavation pit, with heavy machinery now well into the task at hand.

Located at the corner of 33 Ave SW and 22 St SW in Marda Loop, close to several local amenities and transit, the 6-storey, 70-unit, Courtyard 33 will soon be home to upwards of 100 people. Part and parcel of the slew of redevelopment that has come to define much of the 33 Ave SW corridor, the current project will add a great deal of pedestrian vibrancy.

Designed by 5468796 Architecture for RNDSQR, Courtyard 33 will feature an asymmetrical area of cubic, rectilinear forms, which will make up the bulk of the facade. Comprising two distinct volumes, connected via a series of sky-bridges, and an inner courtyard, the project will be unique in more ways than one.

While it will still be some time yet before construction begins, one can imagine the visual impact that this project will hold within the neighbourhood upon completion.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
