Just over a year since our last update, and progress at the ever-controversial Riverwalk development in Cliff Bungalow has moved ahead significantly. Demolition crews have all but cleared the way for the ambitious, 12-storey, modern living and care facility/residence, with construction likely to begin soon.

A site of contention among some locals, the Riverwalk development has caught the ire of many owing to the perception that it is too tall, and too dense for the traditionally low-rise, single-family home-defined neighbourhood. In sight, however, of a handful of apartment towers, and located at a major intersection, close to transit, and the bustling 4 St SW corridor, the development may not be as out of place as one may think.

Should the project move forward, the complex would include space for 141 units, serving a ranging a variety of senior living needs, and would house a grocery store at its base with frontage along 25 Ave SW. Designed by S2 Architecture for Campion Property Group, Riverwalk would provide a home for up to 200 seniors, with apartments up top, and assisted living below (staff quarters and medical offices included).

Close to many local services, and containing lots of in-house amenities, Riverwalk would likely be a prime address for seniors looking for a home to suit their every need over a range of years.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out our associated Databasefile and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
