Five months since our last update, and the first signs of real progress have now appeared at the future Courtyard 33 build site in Marda Loop. Following the demolition of a row of suburban homes, the site has been cleared, and heavy machinery is now on hand for excavation.

RNDSQR's Courtyard 33 will feature a 6-storey mixed-use structure, with 70 residential suites held above a large street-facing retail space. Located along the bustling 33 Ave SW corridor in Marda Loop, close to Crowchild Trail SW, Courtyard 33 will bring a great deal of foot traffic and urban vibrancy to South Calgary.

The design by 5468796 Architecture will be bold, the structure to be composed series of stacked, angled, cubic volumes (below). The textural elevations will give the project a highly sculptural element, the two main volumes to be interconnected by multiple elevated causeways and an inner courtyard.

Once complete, Courtyard 33 will be a very modern, distinctive addition to Marda Loop - the project part and parcel of the neighbourhood's ongoing urban transformation.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
