Calgary based Modern Office of Design + Architecture has once again been nominated for an architectural award, this time for their design for the proposed new headquarters of ATTAbotics, a Calgary-based robotics company. The impressive new design has been nominated for an Architizer A+ Award in the category of Unbuilt Commercial. Voting can be done on-line at Architizer's website.

The 7-storey triangular building is an eye catcher without a doubt, and it's not a surprise that it's up for an award. Designs like this are new territory for a city like Calgary, which in the past has seen more conservatively styled buildings.

Located in northeast Calgary near the International airport, the project will be the new headquarters for ATTAbotics, a rapidly growing business which has outgrown its existing facilities. ATTAbotics was looking for a new manufacturing/office facility in the 12,000 sqm range, and had succinctly expressed that they didn't want a building that was a 'boring box'. That's where Modern Office came into the picture.

Aside from the remarkable look of the structure, its design features both office and manufacturing space combined into one, with a central oculus that spreads natural light throughout the floors. Another notable feature of the building is the roof, which is designed as a sloped, habitable terrace. These are just a few of the project's most notable aspects.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
