When we last checked in on August, Avi Urban's University District project, caisson drillers were still working away, and the site had seen only some partial excavation. Since then the site has completed the excavation stage, with the exception of the earthen access ramp, and is well into the foundation stage.

The most notable sign of progress however is a recently installed crane base at the west end of the pit. With the base installed, a crane will be coming soon. With the arrival of the crane, combined with the warmer weather, it will not be long now before pace of the project kicks into high gear.

The 6-storey, 120-unit, residential condo building is Avi Urban's first in the burgeoning University District, and will rise on University Avenue right in the heart of the neighbourhood. August will sit across from Rhapsody, a 288-unit residential project that will include a Save-on Foods, the neighborhood's first grocery. Another interesting part of the multi-phase project is the 16-storey, 156-room ALT Hotel that will be built alongside the residential condo suites. The hotel will be Groupe Germain's third hotel in Calgary.

With construction still in its early stages there will be plenty of progress to follow. To keep up to date on what's happening with August and the ALT Hotel, check out the associated Database files and Forum threads for discussion and photo updates, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
