With the The Royal soon to reach its own coronation, it was not without pomp that the new Urban Fare at the tower's base made its recent debut. Celebrating its grand opening over the weekend, Calgary's first Urban Fare in Beltline/Mount Royal features 27,000 sq. ft. of first-rate produce, meat, and prepared foods, all displayed and served within a trendy, urban, space tailor-made for its metropolitan clientele.

White and black accent walls, paired with a modern industrial loft vibe sets the tone for most of the store, while the sawtooth-patterned hardwood floors help to bring a bespoke, warm character to an otherwise cavernous commercial space. Instragram-worthy chalkboard displays, artwork, and floral arrangements further serve to give the BC-based grocery store chain a decidedly non-big box store aesthetic, with aisle upon aisle of glimmering produce more than enough to garner enthusiastic consumption.

Located at the corner of 8 St SW and 16 Ave SW in the heart of the Beltline, and adjacent to Lower Mount Royal, Calgary's newest grocery store is ideally situated to capture numerous among the city's most metropolitan consumers. Set within the bottom of a 34-storey high-rise, just steps to the many independent shops, cafes, and bars of the Beltline, Urban Fare, like the new Canadian Tire store with which the former shares the tower's podium, has succeeded in bringing a tasteful taste of the suburbs into core.

As for The Royal, the debut of the Urban Fare, preceded by the grand opening of the Canadian Tire a few months ago, has now set the development on a fast-track to total completion.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
