One of the first Calgary projects ever discussed on SkyriseCities was the Residence Inn by Marriott in Calgary's Beltline neighborhood. One would have to go all the way back to November of 2015, when photos were first posted on our Forum showing the beginning of demolition on the former Alberta Boot building, to fully appreciate the full scope of this project.

Three years later, and the project has come full circle with the opening of the hotel and the recent occupancy of the units in the rental tower. The construction pylons and fencing are gone, the doors are open, and the entire block is now fully open for business. Calgary's Beltline can now boast having a large, modern, hotel in its midst. Along with the hotel, the complex features 7,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, and a 10,000 square-foot conference centre. These amenities have brought a significant amount of vibrancy to the otherwise still partially vacant 10th Avenue streetscape.

The 303-unit, purpose-built, residential tower, now named SODO, began to take in residents in February, with the 390-room hotel opening shortly afterwards on March 1st. Designed by IBI Group, the hotel is managed by Atlific Hotels, and the residential tower is now owned by Quadreal Property Management.

Together, the development has succeeded in reinvigorating the local landscape, bringing a great deal of foot traffic and urban vibrancy to the area.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
