More than six months since our last update, and progress at Strategic Group's office-to-residential conversion project known as "Cube," has been moving steadily along. Located within the former Stephenson Building at 1177 11 Ave SW in Beltline, the 7-storey, 62,000 sq. ft. conversion project will soon be home to 65 one- and two-bedroom rental apartments.

Visible in the images above and below, the old, 1980s-era reflective glass curtain wall is being replaced by standard vision glass, which will allow for more transparency, and less harm to birds. The new curtain wall will provide floor-to-ceiling views of the surrounding cityscape - a definite bonus given the lack of outdoor space.

Centrally located near the corner of 11 St SW and 11 Ave SW, Cube will be a prime urban address for future tenants. Situated across from the Midtown COOP grocery store, 6 blocks from the 17 Ave SW commercial strip, and just a short walk to the West Kerby CTrain station, Cube will be convenient for every type of resident.

Moreover, Cube is representative of a relatively rare phenomenon in Calgary, the office-to-residential conversion not something often seen here. Taking advantage of the building's prime location, and a great example of adaptive re-use in action, Cube is a project that makes sense across many different development metrics.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
