Ten weeks since our last update, and the dual-structure 500 Block by Hines, Solomon Cordwell Buenz, and Kirkor Architect Planners, has now reached above grade. Located at the corner of 4 St SW and 12 Ave SW, the 7- and 35-storey 500 Block will eventually become a sizeable development within the core.

First to rise, the shorter 7-storey block at the corner of 4 St SW and 12 Ave SW has already broken well above grade. The podium will contain a large amount of retail, with street presence on both frontages, above which roughly 100 units will be placed.

The larger 35-storey high-rise will sit back from the corner, with frontage along 12 Ave SW. At least 300 units will be placed in the taller tower, bringing the total for the development to 463.

Situated close to the Beltline, Central Memorial Park, and the CTrain, 500 Block will well serve the needs of urban professionals and those looking to be close to the core. Once complete, 500 Block will more than likely be a welcome addition to downtown, its centrality to be major selling point.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Databasefile and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
