Arguably the most exciting construction project in Calgary is getting close to structural completion as recent photos show that assembly has begun for the steel frame crown of the 58-storey Telus Sky. Concrete forming for the landmark tower has wrapped up, and the final few floors are now being formed above using steel frame construction.
The upper levels will be home to a "Sky Garden" offering building tenants an inviting space to take in views of the surrounding city. It won't be the highest observation point in the city, falling just shy of The Bow's viewing area, though the green space would still take the title of Calgary's highest outdoor space, and the second highest in Canada.
The tower—which began construction in mid-2015—has been one of Calgary's most anticipated developments for several reasons, most notable an Avante Garde design by Denmark's Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), one of the globe's biggest "starchitect" firms. The design was described by BIG principal Bjarke Ingels as 'a Cowgirl among the Cowboys'. Other factors generating interest include 'Northern Lights', a dynamic electronic light art display designed by Canadian artist Douglas Coupland.
