Today we report on the construction start of another Calgary inner city project. This time the news comes from the Kensington area, where Calgary-based Truman Development is beginning construction on Archer (formerly known as Memorial Drive). Buildings on site were demolished back in July, the property having been idle since that time. A Liebherr LB24 foundation piling drill has arrived on site as well as other equipment in preparation for construction.

The five-storey, 39-unit building is situated in one of Calgary's most desirable inner city locations - just around the corner from the popular 10th street corridor, and a half block away from the landmark Peace Bridge. Designed by S2 Architecture, Archer is has a bold modern aesthetic, making use of materials such as charcoal brick and wood style paneling. The building also features a shared rooftop terrace, which will boast some of the best views in the city, overlooking the Bow River and Peace Bridge with the Calgary skyline as a backdrop.

This is an exciting new project for Kensington, part of the neighbourhood's urban transformation and ongoing rediscovery. Walkable and close to goods and services, and an easy commute to downtown, Kensington's latest addition will be a sure sell once it is complete.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
