Demolition work has been moving along non-stop since we last checked in at the future site of the three-tower Curtis Block located at 12 Ave SE and Macleod Trail. Once a hodgepodge of fast food restaurants, low-rise office blocks, and parking lots, the consolidated property has now become an open vista, the site all but ready for excavation.

Stuck somewhere in-between the hustle and bustle of downtown, the East Village, and the Stampede Grounds, ONE Properties' Curtis Block by ArquitectonicaDIALOG, and landscapers Claude Cormier + Associates, represents a transformative shift for the area, the planned three-tower development to bring a whopping 628 units to the neighbourhood. On target to increase the local population by upwards of 1,200 new full-time residents, the project will more than likely see a marked uptick in pedestrian vibrancy and the availability of services.

Captured from an overhead vantage point, the images above and below highlight the fast rate of progress on-site, the demolition of the building featured in the photo occurring over a matter of days in late September.

Assuming progress continues at this pace over the current month, it will not be long before crews begin their subterranean plunge, assuming excavation work gets green-lit ahead of winter. Even then, it will not be long before Curtis Block begins to transform the neighbourhood.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
