A month since our last update, and progress at the site of 500 Block by Hines has been making steady progress. Located at 12 Ave SW and 4 St SW in downtown Calgary, the Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Kirkor Architects Planners-designed towers will soon rise to 7 and 35 storeys.

A series of cement pours have transformed the site since the summer, it to not be too long now before the subterranean built site rises up to grade. Crews have been busy on-site, with work for now focusing upon the base of the tower, before moving on to the mid-rise block.

500 Block will consist of two structures - a 35-storey residential tower, and a 7-storey residential mid-rise block - which will fill out the site. Viewed in the rendering below, the smaller of the two structures will face onto 4th St SW at the east end of the site, while both will be lined with a continuous strip of ground-floor retail.

All in all, the project is on target to deliver 463 units upon completion in 2019, the addition of upwards of 700 new residents to the area to have a major positive impact in terms of local pedestrian vibrancy. Close to downtown, the Beltline, Central Memorial Park, and the CTrain, the project will be a popular destination for those looking to live in the heart of the city.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Databasefile and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
