Canadian real estate firm Slate has unveiled plans to provide a massive retrofit to Stephen Avenue Place in downtown Calgary. Located at 700 2 Sw SW, the 1980s-era, 40-storey office tower will be remade, its base to meet the street with a brand new retail and dining podium.

The new podium base of the 620,000 square-foot office tower will be anchored via a joint effort between Oliver & Bonacini Hospitality and Concorde Entertainment Group, the multi-storey podium to open onto the bustling Stephen Avenue Walk. Further up, there will be more retail, additional restaurants spaces, and a fitness centre.

Slate's inventory now numbers 21 office properties, including 12 in the core, for a total of 2.3 million square feet. Set for completion by 2020, the Stephen Avenue Place retrofit will be a transformative project for the core, part of Slate's bullish run on downtown commercial properties that has been ongoing for the last 18 months.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below,
