The momentum continues for Calgary based Battistella as they recently announced their latest project, NUDE, a high-rise residential tower to be located in the west Beltline. The 18-storey, 177-unit tower is the first high-rise condominium project to be announced for Calgary's core since 2015. With INK, Battistella's most recent project in the East Village almost complete, it was time for a new project, and this time, it was back to the Beltline where Battistella had previously built the highly successful Colours and Chocolate.

There has been significant buzz around the project, especially regarding the name "NUDE." We caught up with Chris Pollen, Director, Sales & Marketing for Battistella, to chat about the project, and when asked about the name and the inspiration for it, Pollen responded, "There were a few names on the shortlist, but NUDE was the only one that resonated because it represents so many of the ideas this building stands for. When designing NUDE, [the team] focused on the true meaning of minimalism and realized it is not about owning nothing, but about being very intentional about the things you do own. This building is a celebration of living a stripped down, essential life. I believe buyers will appreciate this very considered approach in every detail throughout the building."

The new project, to be located at 1315 14 Ave SW in the west end of the Beltline is expected to inject some additional pedestrian vibrancy into an established area of the Beltline that has not seen much in terms of high-density development since 1970's and 1980's. Designed by S2 Architects, NUDE, is made up of modern materials including glass and metal that have been selected to both stand out and simultaneously blend with the project's immediate surroundings. For now, a sales centre for NUDE is expected to open in September, to be followed by the release of more renderings in the near future.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
