Progress at the two-tower Residence Inn by Marriott in downtown Calgary has been moving along swiftly since our last update, the cladding and glazing work on both developments now coming to a close. With finishing touches now underway, it will not be long before the project welcomes home its first generation of guests and residents.

Viewed above, the 33-storey, 303-unit rental tower is now all but complete, the installation of the podium's decorative geological glass components a clear signal that exterior work is now nearly finished.

A key design element of the residential tower's indoor amenity spaces, the decorative glass bays will provide ample natural light, along with what will likely be an interesting view of the surrounding streetscape. Framed by textured stone cladding, the decorative touches play nicely off one another, creating a cohesive geological theme.

Moving over to the 34-storey, 390-room hotel tower (above), the lack of balconies has allowed for a smoother overall aesthetic, one which is broken up only by the inclusion of decorative orange spandrel, which accents one of the tower's two volumes.

Down at street level, the hotel's podium base, much like its sibling, has been clad in stone, the development as a whole to include 7,000 square feet of ground floor retail. Combined with the hotel's planned 10,000 square-foot conference centre, the Residence Inn by Marriott promises to be a destination unto itself.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
