Only a month after our last update, and the appearance of cedar shake cladding has brought new life to PLOT. development group's MoDA-designed SWITCH|bloc. Providing a great deal of juxtaposition between the modern window boxes, and dark glazing, the use of cedar shake serves to soften the 4-storey development's hard edges.

While some on our Forum have suggested the use of cedar shake has given the building a decidedly 1970s vibe, others have come to its defence, praising the use of natural materials instead of spandrel.

Located in Lower Mount Royal, south of the popular 17 Ave SW corridor, SWITCH|bloc will soon deliver 19 family-friendly units to the core, the structure's unusual switchback design, and two-storey floor plans offering a nice division of space.

Set for completion by the end of 2018, it will not be long now before this timber frame structure is complete, bringing upwards of 50 new residents to the area.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
